Information

This is a study of Mojang’s cross-platform dungeon crawler, Minecraft Dungeons. All of the UX/UI activities and practices were completed as a part of ELVTR’s UX/UI in Gaming course.

Outcomes

  • Designed data-driven UI improvements for core game experiences (home and inventory).

  • Applied a brand's style for new features.

  • Delivered designs through a short time limit and very limited resources.

  • Applied UX/UI practices in a gaming context.

  • Player was initially confused about what the double “online game” CTAs meant.

    • Game CTAs in bottom left of home screen needs to be made clearer.

  • Player was unsure how to equip items.

    • Equip action needs to be made clearer.

Home Screen Enhancements:

  • Adjusted CTA language of primary CTA from “ONLINE GAME” to “PLAY GAME” and added a label above the game mode selector labeled "GAME MODE" to clearly differentiate the two CTAs and their distinct functionality.


Inventory Screen Enhancements:

  • Added "EQUIP" primary CTA and adjusted size of "SALVAGE" CTA.
